消防士を題材にした本作は、消防士が火災現場や救命の現場に直面するたびに垣間見る人間の本性や社会の様子が描かれ、消防士という職業の人知れない苦悩が描かれている。また、臨場感あふれる火災現場、救助シーンに加えて、本作では消防隊員の日常生活や家庭での様子など、その彼ら一人一人の人生模様が丁寧に描かれている秀逸なヒューマンドラマ。
