新生児の頃、病院で偶然入れ替わったことを知った2人の10代の少女の物語。ベイ・ケニッシュは両親と弟のいる裕福な家庭で育ち、ダフネ・バスケスは幼い頃に髄膜炎のため聴力を失い、労働者階級に住むシングルマザーのもとで育った。両家が出会い、娘たちのために一緒に暮らす方法を学ぼうと奮闘するとき、事態は劇的な展開を見せる。
